Research
I was asked to conduct some primary and secondary research for my new FMP idea, I did this with my friends whilst outside filming, we conducted some shots of various different ideas which could help in the creation of my FMP.
The first piece of research we filmed is a simple video experimenting with the handheld camera I want my FMP to include, we filmed a simple storyline with a murderer and 2 students;
Filming this helped me understand how to better use the handheld camera, helping capture things such as someone running with the camera, the camera falling, the camera panning from face to face, zooming in etc.
After this we decided to film a second video which was very similar to the first, this time we tried to incorporate more of the action, especially the murderer being seen temporality, as to help fit into the incognito theme.
This video allowed us to experiment with tracking action that’s happening a further distance away using zoom, further expanding my primary research.
The next video we decided to film was a documentary on homelessness in Russia starring 2 of my friends, this was mostly filmed to see if we could capture background footage for the audience to notice (myself climbing up a ridge.) along with how the camera would look when dropped into something like leaves, with things still happening whilst its on the floor.
The next video we filmed was in succession to the last, after Salman’s character was beaten we continued to film another featuring a separate character, this was to test if succession from one shot to the next would work within the handheld camera format.
The final video was an experiment to see if I could limit what is shown on camera on purpose, to do this Salman’s character died after the interview video, my character took the camera and ensured that his body wasn’t filmed fully, keeping him obscured.
