Action Cut

Action cutting is when an action is being performed, and the camera cuts to another shot following the action, for example a man walks up to a doorknob, begins turning it in one shot and finishes in another, or a punch being pulled and thrown in the next, it is used very commonly in many different genres of media, and is also very commonly used in action scenes.

Action cutting can be used in a wide range of media, it can be used for menial tasks such as a bin lid being placed back on the bin, up to a gun being fired, it is extremely common and can be used to trick the audience into thinking something is actually happening, such as when an actor is fighting in a scene, a punch can be pulled in one scene and the cut can be made in a way where the punch isn’t actually seen making contact with the actor but is shot in such a way where it looks very believable, thus making it easier for directors to film action scenes without risking injury.
