I chose book culture as I am apart of this culture and love reading. My theme is going to be the Harry Potter books because I read mostly fantasy books. I have generated ideas by creating mind maps, sketching ideas and creating a mood board. I have researched Jodi Harvey who uses pages to make sculptures which she then places on an open book to make it look like they are coming out of the pages she has influenced my ideas as it is a unique way to use my silhouettes. John Rocco illustrates book cover he uses simple designs of the characters so the reader can still create their own version in their head. I also researched Jodie Blaney because I do digital art and I like how she uses bright colours when drawing. I like doing 3d art so I researched Ceres Lau who layered paper cutouts which is what I specialise in. I have taken a survey of what my friends and family favourite genres and trope was. I intend to try 3D sculpture and screen printing for the first time. I will also be using digital art, animation and paper cutting in this project. My idea for my final piece is to do a sculpture popping out of a book as it represents what reading feels like.
