I chose blue because it reminds me of the sea and sky which remind of seaside holidays. My theme the ocean more specifically oceanic animals. My original idea was the seaside which evolved to ocean animals since I have always liked animals of all descriptions. I experimented by drawing different animals including people and colouring them in with only blues. I have developed these ideas by drawing animals that fit my theme and adding them to backgrounds. I have researched Kara Walker as I like the simplistic nature of the silhouette. They influenced how I drew the animal because I like the ambiguity that comes which as you can’t tell if it is a dolphin or an orca. Another artist I researched is William Morris as I how wallpaper repeats itself and how he hides animals in his designs. I have researched the cultural, historical, social and scientific researched into the colour blue. I intend to use screen printing to usable items with my illustrations on them. I also intend to use paints to create art pieces as well as backgrounds for my paper cut-outs. I will also be using digital art to create art pieces and experiment during this project. I intend to test out my ideas by experimenting with layering paper cut-outs to create a 3D art piece. I am also going to experiment with layering different textures and drawings together. I am thinking of doing a seaside painting with animals jumping out the water for my final piece. I was also thinking of maybe putting people playing and/or relaxing on the beach.
