Proposal for the collaborative project

(Feature Film – Frequencies Unseen)

What is the collaborative project?

The collaborative project that I will be working and assisting on, is an original idea by Ash Pamment. The title of our project is Frequencies Unseen, we both hope to turn into a feature film through the use of this module. Together we have agreed that the film’s runtime will last no longer than 30 to 45 minutes. Due to the original concept of the film belonging to Ash, we both agreed upon Ash taking the main role as the director and script writer, myself taking on the roles as the first AD, assistant director, in addition to taking the roles of additional script writer, cinematographer and camera operator.

Ash is focusing more on the pre-production side of the film, that being the script and scheduling, while I am adding to the script; Only adding to it slightly as to not disrupt the story they are wanting to tell. Together we are both location scouting via the internet and myself using google street view, trying to find a building and a few streets to film on for a few specific scenes.

Ash has asked their place of work, BCB, and they have agreed to allow us to film portions of the film there.

Possible locations wanted for filming

We have a few roads and buildings in mind that we are hoping to use as filming locations; these were found by looking at websites including:

The building that Ash has managed to secure us filming at, BCB Radio station is location at the back of Ostler Shopping Market, 11 Rawson Rd, Bradford BD1 3SH

Confirmed filming locations

The pictures are of Ash and myself setting up and putting the tables, sofas, chair and cameras. Also changing the colours of the LED lights to help give emphasise on Cade’s emotions, as well as to allow the audience another way to visibly see and to feel the emotion.

Ash and I have a few confirmed locations that we will be filming in and around, the first confirmed location is in the college itself. The location being the renovated TV Studio, not to be confused by the TV Studio that is for the music students. The second location is one that was secured by Ash, as they have their work placement at BCB, Ash was able to ask and secure us the location.

The synopsis of the film

The film, Frequencies Unseen, follows our protagonist Cade, as they do their best to hide a dark secret, as well as only being able to feel any type and form of emotion through the use of music. The reason for their lack of emotions is due to Cade having  to feel emotions through the use of music helping them keep up the façade, all the while hiding their relies upon the main actor, who is not yet cast, to be able to portray the personality and demeanour of someone with, an antisocial personality disorder with said disorder focusing in on psychopath and suffering from alexithymia, both disorders are different from one another. However, with the main character, Cade, of the film being a psychopath they would try their best to play off their psychopathy as something else, thus the alexithymia, which is something easier to understand and to care for, it doesn’t have the connotation of being someone to fear.

Our Team

For our collaborative project we, Ash and I, are heavily dependent on the music we use. We are wanting to use the music to both help inform the main character’s emotions in a scene and to help further the plot. Due to both mine and Ash’s lack of music production knowledge, we are going to be working with a student from the level 5 music course, that student being Adam Sothers, to help craft a soundtrack for the film with a mix of contemporary, popular music and more instrumental pieces of music for certain scenes. Ash and I have each made a playlist of music that we feel would work as both diegetic and non-diegetic music for the film, additionally we want to help Adam, as much as we can with our lack of music knowledge, to create the correct pieces of music for the specific scenes for the film that we have in mind.

Ash and I hope to utilise the skills of the media make-up students; However, I still need to get in contact the media make-up tutor, as we hope to make use of their skills for the parts of the film that will require their expertise.

If for whatever reason we are unable to get assistance from one of the media make-up students, I have a friend on standby, with the same qualifications and knowledge as the media make-up students, who is more than willing to help with the makeup.

To keep in contact with the people we are will be working with we have set up a group chat on teams, and for Adam Sothers, I have set up a shared music playlist, so he knows what style and type of music both Ash and myself are wanting in the film.

Our Team’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Starting off with myself, I believe that my strengths are behind a camera and a screen. I can capture meaningful and powerful images as well as editing them into a story that is easy to follow. I am also able to edit together pictures that would not necessarily relate to one another, I am able to find ways to connect them through editing. For the film, Ash and I are wanting to utilise the knowledge we’ve gained from this course. The knowledge we learned about lighting and sound. Why we would need to change the lighting set up and equipment depending on where we are filming as well as using the correct audio equipment to capture the best sound possible.

Equipment List and Resources

The equipment that we will be using will be a mix of the college equipment and the equipment both Ash and I have. There is also an equipment list I have made, to help Ash and myself to not forget anything that will be needing to use. When it comes to editing the film together, Ash will be using Premier Pro, I will be using a mix of Premier Pro as well as DaVinci Resolve as I am more familiar with that editing software.
