Evaluation

What went well?

We worked very well as a team, especially considering, the our limited numbers. We all participated and contributed equally. We all participated in the development stage of production. While in the pre-production stage of this project we found that our ideas naturally lead to the same final idea, a pop culture themed talk show.

Clear integral communication between the each of us was always a priority, unfortunately we did experience some poor communication with central media. Despite having some trouble in the TV Studio, due to faulty equipment, majority of the time while working, most of our practice runs turned out really well. Ash, Jake and I all learned how to use the Chroma Key feature in OBS to fully utilize the included greenscreen.

How we did as a team

We managed to adapt to the last minute delay of not being able to acquire talent, furthermore we were able to mitigate any negative effects additionally due to the poor communication between Central Media and our Tutor, John Dey, who also acted as our liaison.

As a team Jake, Ash and I communicated and worked together all wanting the final product to have the high production value. We achieved this by each assigning ourselves different aspects of the show to work on.

Ash worked on the script, focusing more on working independently on the second show’s script. Jake and I provided input, advice and suggestions helping guide the show direction. I worked on the show’s graphics, providing one alternative background, intended to be used with the greenscreen.

What could have been improved?

One thing that needed improvement, is the communication between us and Central Media. When we requested additional time we were often denied, and when we were given the additional time it was cut short. Due to the lack of communication we had to push back certain aspects of the show, one example to how the communication issue affected us greatly is that we couldn’t provide potential talent with specific dates until the very last minute.

I feel as though we could have improved upon the individual sections of the project we were given to work on. Due to the uncertain deadline, communication deteriorated slightly. As we all focused in on providing the best quality for our individual portions of the worked.

Some equipment was also in need of improvement. The microphone used is in need of improvement too, as the mic used had poor sound quality, sounding somewhat muffled and grainy. We would source a better quality microphone that world better suit the requirements of this project and work with the systems used in the TV studio.

The final improvements that would have made a noticeable difference are the videos. We played them through screen recording YouTube. Unfortunately for us when the Broadcast was live the videos played had no sound. We remain unsure to how this issue cropped up. We suspect it’s either due to YouTubes copyright detection system or a fault of our expertise of OBS. Either way, what we should do in future is download the videos that we plan to use, and add them to a separate scene. Doing this would allow the vision mixer further control over the video itself, unlike simply playing a YouTube video.
