Impact of lack of budget
We initially planned to have two students from the Preforming Arts course to host the show. We had in mind Mohammed Saeed and Maya Bhikha, as they were the hosts for our previous show, unfortunately when I messaged them they were unavailable for the practice and final filming days.
Ash sent a message on a group channel to the work experience group chat we are all apart of, as well as many other students. However, no one got back to us expressing interest in hosting the show. Since we had no budget, it made the task of finding talent to host the show a challenge. If we did have a somewhat reasonable budget, I believe it would have been one more incentive to potential talent to host the show; the other incentive being that it this experience could be something to add to their portfolio and without the incentive they were removed of that additional incentive.
Thankfully the script wasn’t impacted too much by the lack of our budget. We kept the idea for the live broadcast realistic, and to an achievable standard. We thought it best to have show be a Talk Show, discussing movies, shows and general topics that encompass the pop culture zeitgeist.
How Budget impacted Set Design
As a team; Jake, Ash and I all agreed that the TV Studio was in need for some added colour. The chairs that are in the TV Studio are basic school chairs, they’re monochromatic, with the only added pop being the burst of Orange on the top cushion of the chairs. In place of the plain chairs, Ash offered to buy some more colourful chairs, however without a budget it made purchasing set design difficult. Jake and I moved the couch and a small table into position according to the floor plan. Luckily for us in the room opposite, there were bright Orange couches, we used one couch for the first interview segment.
Initially we wanted to have added features added to the studio, something unique for each segment of the show, a visual que to the audience that we’re moving on to the next subject. Again due to the lack of budget and after some thought we agreed that it’s probably best to stick the what was already provided to use.
We tried to add some colour with the RGB overhead lights, however we ran into issues with the greenscreen. The added colour from the lights made it a slight challenge to chroma key the greenscreen out cleanly.
