Initial Level design

The importance of different types of assests Graphics:

Graphics are important in video games as they show the viewer what they are looking at, an example of this is the background may be a blue sky. This blue sky could have the worst or best graphics which gives an early insight on how the rest of the game will play. A graphic is a design or visual art and it provides the viewer something to look at which is important as you need to be able to see what you are playing in order to actually play the game. 2d and 3d games will have many graphics such as textures and logos in the game, they can vary in graphics depending what type of game they are an example of this is terraria its graphics are pixels which you can clearly see but at the same time they make it look good and allow you to experience the amazing 2d game. 2d games could also be highly detailed an example would be dragon ball fighterz or blazblue cross tag battle these games are 2d fighters but they have a large fan base because the graphics are stunning and the game is made enjoyable. They have many graphics in games that show visual art so that you have something to look at that does something if you click it. [Addo, A.,2020]

Audio is used in games to create tension, add emotion and build immersion. The audio in the game helps enhance the user’s experience and immersion in the game allowing them to feel what the character they are playing is feeling or even excitement. Audio is also used to drive emotion from the user and make them feel like they are doing the action which they performed realistically. Audio provides many purposes in games like providing dialogue and to develop a scene with music even when fighting a bgm plays in the background to either excite the user or make them feel the strength of their foes. Audio is important in games because without it playing the game will not feel right because there’s no sound for anything just silent whilst walking, attacking, jumping etc. This means you will be losing a huge component of the game which will make it feel lacking. Cutscenes are important in games because the cutscenes helps to develop the story and narrative aswell as giving you the feeling of being there and connecting you to the characters introduced aswell as the character you are playing. Without cutscenes and film in the game, it would be difficult to develop the storytelling as cutscenes are focused on the actual story whereas the whole game would be actual gameplay which would be hard to tell the story as the user would be concentrating on playing the game not the cutscenes. Cutscenes also provide a break for the user allowing them to stop their gameplay and instead listen to the majority of the story being told and seen through different cutscenes. Cutscenes help with immersion as you walk through with the characters and their story with the cutscenes.

Rationale: My game idea is to create a game that you need to reach the end while avoiding traps and enemies there will be an arrow pointing right at the starting point and at the ending point there will be a flag to notify the user that it is the end of the level. The objective of the game is for the character to reach the end without being touched by the traps and enemies once and there will be power-ups along the way to make the travelling the level easier. I will also add collectables in the shape of coins that the player can collect and if all have been collected they get a perfect clear if they finish it which will help give more satisfaction for the player finishing the game. The scenery will be a blue sky with some clouds, green fields and some moving platforms which will reach to clouds that you will be able to travel on. The character will need to avoid traps and enemies in order to reach the end of the level. The game will have different types of terrain you will need to pass through. The inspiration for the concept of the game is red ball.

Project concept: The concept of the game is to reach the end of the platformer level without being touched by the traps and enemies.
