Song Mixing

The first thing I did when I opened the song I deleted the clicking sound and faded the end of each track so there aren’t any extra sounds after the song ends. Also using fader will add a nice effect to the song. By fading each track individually it will create a different mood to the song because each track will be faded out at different times.

I used this to remove the spill of the guitar getting in a way with other tracks. I did by setting a threshold on -30dB for the snare and on the kick -11dB this had cut off the sound from the guitar and the kick and the snare sounds much fuller.

Then I started to change the levels of the instruments so they are all balanced out and none of them are louder than the other. This made the song sound more natural and everything was balanced out.

Then I did some panning and split the instruments on each side or in the middle so everything is not all together and it sounds natural and less full as each instrument is split, you can also hear each instrument more clearly.

Today we started to add some reverb and we started to compress our instruments. I was struggling so I asked Luis for help. I didn’t add as much reverb on the drums because I didn’t like the sound of it. It sounded less natural and not like it was recorded in a studio. I added reverb on the vocals and guitars. Reverbing the vocals were a bit difficult to reverb because Kabeer has a very loud and powerful voice so it was a bit harder to add reverb on it. Additionally, I added reverb on guitars and bass to make them sound more interesting.

Then I started to compress the kick, snare, bass, and vocals. I did not compress the guitars because they already sound full. I still need to improve on the kick because it does not sound full enough. I think that this was very hard for me to do because I was struggling to make it sound better and more fuller. However, I managed to make it better but it still needs a lot of improvements.

I was struggling to fix Kabeer’s voice but then Luis helped me and leveled his voice. I also had to change the kick sound because it didn’t sound full enough. Then I added some effects on the first guitar because some of the notes weren’t played right and the guitar by its self didn’t sound so interesting. After doing this I leveled everything up and made sure everything sounds nice and not any of the instruments are too loud but everything is balanced out.

Peer Assessment:

“The song has too much reverb making it sound unrealistic creating an intense echo effect. However, the panning is good giving it equal balance between instruments so you can hear all of them throughout the song. All the instruments have well-balanced         / dynamics and sound good. I think you did a good job with the EQ and the compression is alright, but I think the vocals need less reverb.”
