Recording Techniques

Microphone positioning -The best direction for mic is straight in front of the mouth or slightly below and angled up towards  mouth. Generally, keeping a microphone between one-half to one inch away from mouth will help to capture the full tone of the voice. Also for the guitar make sure the microphone is positioned on the left or right sound of the speaker for the perfect sound because if you would place the mic in the middle there won’t be any sound coming from it.you can also put the mic behind the speaker for a bassy sound. For drums make sure the mic is the same angle for both of the overheads and its in the middle for of the bass facing downwards inside the drum. For the snare make sure the mic is positioned at the top but make sure the mic is not touching anything so the drummer won’t need to face touching the mic while playing.

The 5 Methods of Stereo Recording

  • Using a mixing desk or sound card -An audio Interface works as the translator between a microphone and the computer. It takes the analog signal coming from the microphone and converts it into a digital Signal.A Mixer, as the word implies, mixes multiple signals that are being sent through it, with the ability to add effects such as Reverb or Delay.

  • Using software (DAWs) – what are they? Logic Pro X

Logic Pro provides software instruments, audio effects and recording facilities for music synthesis. It also supports Apple Loops – royalty-free, professionally recorded instrument loops. … Logic Pro can work with MIDI keyboards and control surfaces for input and processing, and for MIDI output.

  • The difference between live recordings and multitrack recordings – in the live recordings you get only once chance to perform the song so even when you make a mistake you still have to carry on and cannot stop, however in multi tracking you get infinite chances and ideas for one song and you can change it or add something to it many times. Additionally i think that multi tracking is also making you change your ideas all the time because you want t=everything  to be perfect so you always change everything and this takes a lot of time.
