Live Event Case Study

For this project, I have decided to look at The Beatles. I chose them because they were a very successful band and they used to perform a lot. The event I chose is the Apple Rooftop concert where they performed on the roof with a pianist Billy Preston. The concert has occurred in London on the 30th of January 1969. However, the concert lasted for 42 minutes this was because the police came there and told them to keep down the volume. They also chose to perform on the roof because it was unique and no one has ever done that before.

I think that there aren’t as many positive things as the negatives, and I think this because before starting the concert people and the police told them that they can’t perform like that. I also think that if they would announce the concert or perform in a different venue the concert would last longer and it would turn out to be more successful.

On the other hand, there are some things that did go well as performing on the roof as no one has ever done that before and this made them more popular. Also, many people enjoyed it, an example of this was Alan Parson that has talked about the concert and his experience.

That was one of the greatest and most exciting days of my life. To see The Beatles playing together and getting an instant feedback from the people around them, five cameras on the roof, cameras across the road, in the road, it was just unbelievable.

Health and Safety

In my opinion, if the roof wasn’t secured someone could get hurt. I also think that bringing up all the instruments and setting up all the cables must have been very difficult and therefore this links to trip hazards. Also if there were many people on the roof it could be very hard for them to move.

Overall I think that this performance was very unique and it turned out to be a very successful concert for them and they did enjoy performing there but also the audience was happy. I think, that for my project I will need to make sure the venue we chose will be safe and big so everyone can fit there. Also, we need to think about how we will transport the instruments and where it would be easy to perform and move everything. This research that I have done has taught me to plan everything out and make sure there aren’t any hazards but also that we have a venue that’s big enough so it won’t be so crowded.
