Electronically Realised Composition Analysis

Coldplay and The Chainsmokers – Something Just Like This

I enjoyed this composition. It is a very upbeat song and I enjoy the melody and instrumentation within it. I also like the small but significant changes throughout the piece; such as some changes in dynamics and how they build up and down throughout.

Instruments – keys, bass, percussion, synth, guitar, vocals. The piece slowly builds in texture, starting with keys and bass, then adds percussion and synth within the chorus. Therefore, the texture of the piece starts off thin, but becomes thicker as it progresses. The bridge is also very thin in comparison to the rest of the composition.

As the texture of the piece changes, so do the dynamics. There are no points within the song where it is extremely quiet, but the chorus section is significantly louder than the verses. The pre-chorus is quieter the first couple of times, but becomes louder on the final one.

Structure – verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, pre-chorus, chorus, outro. The piece does have set sections, but it is also quite repetitive. However, it helps the song flow together well and helps it become catchy since the melodies are memorable.

There is some noticeable delay on the vocals within the chorus and pre-chorus of this piece and also on the guitar used within the outro.
