Something I think I should definitely improve on before the final performance is my stage presentation. I barely moved and only looked up a couple of times. From an audience member’s perspective you can tell that I was nervous, so I really need to work on this before the final performance.
Our band is the first band performing for the whole gig, and our first song is Californication. This means that it needs to be a strong performance, as we are first up and we need to make a good impression. Californication didn’t go too well in the mock performance. It wasn’t awful, but it definitely could’ve been better. We all know the song very well, but it was our first time performing with Millie who didn’t really know the lyrics. This meant that the timing was a bit all over the place, as we rely on cues from the singer quite a lot. To improve on this, we need to make sure that our singer knows the song well enough.
The second song on our setlist was Valerie. This was the first song we started practicing as a band, so I believe it is one of our stronger songs. In the mock performance, the song as a whole went very well. I was able to play the chords correctly and I made sure I was on the right setting on the keyboard. Again, I do need to improve my stage presence and ensure that I look less awkward on stage. In order to do this I could research techniques to help me calm my nerves before going on stage.
The final song we decided to do was Locked out of Heaven. We chose this as our final song as it is more upbeat and it is the strongest of the three. As a whole it went very well. However, at one point I accidentally changed the keyboard settings to the sound for the Californication riff, so I need to make sure I don’t do this in the final performance. It isn’t a big mistake but it may be noticeable for some.
As a band I think we could definitely improve on our communication. We have been able to communicate very well within rehearsals, but we need to make sure we bring this to the performance as well.
