I really enjoy listening to this composition. I like how the dynamics change throughout the song (quieter in the verses and bridge but louder in the chorus). I also like how the change between the chorus and the second verse is quite subtle until the vocals start again.
Within the chorus, the song becomes very upbeat, with a lot of instrumentation. The instrumentation for each verse consists of vocals and acoustic guitar, while the choruses are made up of vocals, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, some synth, strings and bass. The texture of the piece changes very often. For example the verses and bridge are both very thin, whereas the texture in each chorus becomes quite thick.
I find the final chorus interesting. Usually within a pop song, the chorus is repeated. However, within this song it isn’t, and the texture of the chorus becomes quite thin towards the end. The first couple choruses end with the song title “Lucky I Was Loved” being repeated over and over in a similar style to the first half of the chorus. The final chorus doesn’t have the same style at the end, and instead they repeat the same line through the backing vocals in the first half of the chorus. I find this interesting because I haven’t really heard it much in other songs I usually listen to, so to me it is quite different, and sounds very good. I can hear some slight reverb on the vocals and guitar which also make it sound more interesting.
The melody within the song is presented through the vocals. The song title is repeated throughout the chorus with a catchy melody that isn’t too complex. This makes it memorable for listeners.
Overall, I think it is a really good composition. It follows a similar structure to most pop songs and it is both rhythmically and dynamically interesting to listen to.
