I’m Leoni Conway, I have been playing piano for quite a while but I would really like to strengthen my skills, and become a better pianist. While I enjoy playing piano, I would also like to learn some other instruments. I know a few chords on both ukulele and guitar, but these are both instruments I hope I can learn more and become better at. A new instrument I would like to try is bass, I haven’t had much experience in playing bass but I would find it quite interesting to learn.
In my second year, I would like to learn more about live sound in music. I think I know the basics of setting up a stage for a performance, but I would definitely like to practice this a lot more, and learn more about why certain monitors and mics are set up in certain ways. I would also like to learn how to properly EQ and mix both vocals and instruments for a live performance, and how to control the mixing desk throughout a live performance, and how this may differ for different genres of music/different sounds.
Something else I would like to focus on and learn this year is reading music, specifically sight reading. I feel as though not knowing how to read music/sight read limits me a lot as a musician, so learning how to do this would open a lot of new doors for me.
While I am open to many different musical genres, the music I listen to mainly consists of pop artists. I really enjoy listening to ballads, but any song with a good vocalist and melody will interest me. I am constantly listening to music in any spare moment I have. The main artists I’m listening to at the moment are Lewis Capaldi, Shawn Mendes, Picture This, Noah Kahan, Cian Ducrot and Tom Odell.
