Testing and Troubleshooting:
We connected the aux to the desk and played audio through to check the backline was working. As there was no sound, we began to troubleshoot the issue. We discovered that it wasn’t working because I had connected the monitors to the PA incorrectly, not attaching the balance link cable.
Soundcheck and Additional Problem-Solving:
We now had sound in the monitors but not in the PA. Once again, we checked the connections and realised that it was actually down to compression on the channel itself from a previous user of the desk. It would have been a good idea for us to reset the desk to zero before starting anything and will certainly be something I do in future. Once all of this was rectified, we got on with sound checking and I was in charge of the drums.
Ringing Out The PA:
WARNING: FEEDBACK AND LOUD NOISE!
Ringing out the PA reduces feedback by limiting frequencies. This is extremely useful and a skill I will continue to use in future.
