Live Sound Sessions

Every Thursday, we had a live sound session with Lewis. I thoroughly enjoyed these sessions because I feel as though I have learnt a lot during them. In the first week, I was terrified to do anything. Lifting heavy equipment or moving things which I deemed to be “taller than me” was daunting and touching the mixing desk terrified me for fear of breaking something expensive.

I am now aware that these fears are nonsense if you follow the health and safety instructions and pay attention. Thanks to Lewis, I now understand how to set up a PA system and use a mixing desk.

Three things I think that I have done well are remembering the order of which things are connected to the snake box and then the mixing desk, working the desk and setting up mics for various instruments.

Three things I could improve on are being confident in myself and not second guessing what I do, setting up the speakers and remembering to use compression on bass instruments.

I look forward to learning more about live sound and applying it in the upcoming projects.
