Our Peer Feedback Call:

My ideas are to be Band Manager of Millie And The Floor Gang. I plan to do this by completing a few main criteria such as:
- Organise and manage a showcase for the band… possibly including other artists.
- Promote using social media (all accounts of which have already been set up). I will take professional looking photos and videos using Zoom cameras and a Canon EOS4000D. Then I will use editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and Premier Pro.
- Promote using other means such as BCB Radio, recording a show/interview and getting track of the week on multiple occasions?
- Assist in planning and organising EP writing and recording. (E.g. Create a schedule for studio and rehearsal time).
- Covid-permitting, put on an EP launch party. This may end up being an online event dependant on the pandemic situation.
- Prepare for all outcomes by creating a problem-solving plan from day one, ensuring that there is a solution to most probable outcomes.
Other ideas I had but don’t want to develop are:
- Write an EP of my own in the genre or pop/soft rock/acoustic. Using Tom Hall as my producer and promoting myself. I do not want to develop this idea as I struggle to write my own songs and feel that this is something I will regret and want to give up on very quickly.
- Set up a mini record label for all of the bands and artists at the college. I do not think that this will work because it is something that requires a lot more than just one person and most people on the course have already made decisions on their final projects.
- Manage a singular music event. I feel as though I would prefer to work with a specific group of musicians to focus on their music rather. This does not mean that planning some kind of event is completely off the table as I plan to do a showcase for them towards the end of the project.
During the call, Jack and Alfie gave me some feedback on my ideas. They said that I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with a good amount of detail. The feedback they gave was not extremely helpful but only because there was not much they could think of to add to my notes. They both agreed that I made a good decision in turning to a management role as I have some experience from the first project this year and can develop the skills I used there much more. I was advised that some aspects may be difficult as I had not done them before but it would be good to develop myself further during the project with elements such as promotion.
From 34:53 I began explaining my ideas briefly to the class. Nic gave me some feedback based on what I had said. He agreed that the other ideas I had aren’t suited to my strengths as much as band managing is. He was happy that the band I wanted to work with were willing to share their project with me. However, I start mine before them which meant I needed to work on what exactly I will be doing for them and can this be carried out before moving into their final project. He was also thinking similarly to me in that other artists could join in to create a larger project. I do feel that this is a good idea but I do not want to add too much to my workload and cause a lot of stress. I hope to continue a good communicative relationship with the band to ensure we can all get the best out of this project.
Last night (04/01/2021) Boris Johnson announced a third national lockdown. This was distressing to hear about as this is now the second time our final projects have been put under extenuating circumstances and it can be quite worrying to think about. I am still going to try and remain positive during this time and stick to the guidelines closely. Hopefully many people will do the same and we can get out of this together much faster. I will try my best to adapt to the situation and come up with a lot of ideas for various outcomes.
