After careful consideration, evaluating feedback and discussing options with tutors, I have decided to focus on my skills as a manager in my final project by becoming an event manager. I thought this would be the best decision for me as I have some experience in managing from previous projects and see this as an opportunity to develop a multitude of skills from managing to video editing. It is also going to be a good idea due to its flexibility for the current conditions of the pandemic. This will feed into my final presentation, a stream that I organise, featuring the band and various other acts.
I also plan to take on the YouTube channel which will post entertaining clips of our work throughout the project. For example video podcasts by Amelia, James and Hareth or rehearsal footage and music videos by other artists.
Although this is a solid idea with a lot of opportunities, it can lead to many possible problems. For example:
- Scheduling issues. I am very good in terms of planning a schedule. However, one problem I find to happen often is other people being unable to stick to it. This can cause a lot of problems and I need to work on a way to make sure that everyone involved is able to remain on task. I think this will be easiest by providing the schedule for everyone and checking up on them often.
- COVID-19. This is a big problem because if we are in lockdown or someone I am working with tests positively (or has been in contact without who has the virus) we could be in danger of missing deadlines or struggling to get things recorded or edited etcetera.
- Edits. In project one we found that most of the problems happened during the editing process. To prevent this from happening, we will double check that camera angles are correct. So as to prevent certain areas of the video becoming unusable. We will also try to edit videos on our own as when someone else looks at it, it is at risk of being ruined.
- Lack of reach. We may struggle to get people to notice our work even if we promote a lot. To try to get the best out of this, it will be important to use multiple advertising platforms such as Radio, Newspapers, Social Media and even physical posters and flyers. This will mean that I need a team of reliable promoters. This is most likely to include Abigail from Level 3 because she has experience with photography and editing as well as promoting for her own band (The Flow).
- Not adequate enough rehearsal time and space. This is a majorly important part of the project because if rehearsals cannot be carried out the quality of all videos and performances will be below average and we won’t get the views or audience we want, which will render all of our hard work unsuccessful. This means that individual practice is key to getting this as good as possible. I aim to encourage this even more so than previously.
- Quality. This is something we need to be of an extremely high standard because it will immediately put people off if not. In order to do this, I need to focus on getting my edits perfect, filmed on good quality cameras like the Zoom ones or my own personal Canon EOS4000D. I am mainly worried about the audio quality as although I have a basic understanding of live sound and mixing audio, I am not the best at it and fear that no one else will be interested in helping with that. Hopefully, I will be able to find someone to assist.
- Being unable to find someone to help in certain aspects such as audio recording, lighting and camera crew. This could also go in the direction of having ones to help with their own projects who let us down once they realise the short amount of time they may have left.
