Final Product and Evaluation

Doing this performance was extremely fun. Being able to play a song I created in a game I love was a very exciting idea and for it to be brought to fruition was a great feeling. Having the VR streamed on the screen was a good idea in theory but I am a little disappointed in the amount of lag that it produced. Overall the performance looked great but it was confusing to watch as the blocks were not timed with my movements.

The final song turned out better than I had anticipated it would. At the beginning of this project, I had many doubts. Particularly, I was having thoughts that I would be unable to produce an authentic EDM song because it is a genre that not only I never listen to but one that I do not typically enjoy. However, I am happy with the result. In the future to help my writer’s block, I will conduct further research into the genre I am creating music in and look at more than one artist for inspiration.

In future projects, I would like to combat the performance issues but having a more immersive and interactive experience. This could include setting up an installation, where attendees can play the game themselves or see the game projected in a more engaging and less delayed way. If I were to redo this project, I would also attempt to build the custom maps from scratch and not via AI. Although the use of Artificial Intelligence is a wonderful way to incorporate even more technological advancements into this project it can not perfectly understand the “flow” or natural movement of the human body and that, I feel, made the level slightly harder to play along with.

Another modification I would make if I did not have the time restrictions that I did, is to create multiple tracks. This is an idea that I toyed with but decided to scrap due to time pressures.
