Due to the unforeseen circumstances that the coronavirus has put us in, I have decided to adapt my project and make it better suited.
At the moment, the college is closing until further notice and we are trying to do as much work as we can at home. This will mean using technology to our advantage to communicate with our tutors. As well as this, many social gatherings are being cancelled or avoided (Avoid office, pubs and travel to stop virus – PM, 2020). This does however create time, which can be used to our advantage.
Other musicians are certainly doing this. Due to social distancing, all sporting and live music events have been cancelled. This is not necessarily a bad thing as because of the internet and social media, we have a possibility to reach more people as they also have more time on their hands. In fact, many pop stars are live streaming concerts while in isolation (Savage, 2020). This has become the hashtag #TogetherAtHome starting with Chris Martin (Coldplay) and leading on from there with other stars such as John Legend following this trend.
This isn’t necessarily all good though as people are still left disappointed and live streams can never be at a convenient time for every single person and they can be missed if they aren’t uploaded for people to watch later on platforms such as Youtube.
This is proof that demand for music is not going to deteriorate any time soon. In fact it is most likely to increase as more people have spare time to listen to music, specifically new artists or music.
Of course because of the virus, I have had to change the way I collaborate. In order to keep the clients we have targeted safe, I think that a slight change to my project will be the best thing to do moving forward. I have contacted SORM to explain the situation and have documented this on my communications page.
As working with them is no longer an option, I will either document my work on a video to show what I would have done if we were delivering to an actual audience or use my research to create a song or two. The only thing I worry about is development of the workshop, if I choose to stay on this route, because I am unsure of how I will be dealing with this as the college is now closed until further notice and I will therefore be unable to carry out a trial workshop.
Doing this also means that my target audience has changed along with my aims and objectives. My new audience will either be people on Youtube watching my videos or people on various social platforms who will listen to my songs. I intend to use platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Facebook if the songwriting route is the one I decide to take. Once this decision has been made I will need to create new aims and objectives. I will put these on a page called “Project Amendments”.
Finally, I have communicated this to Hareth and explained the way I would like to proceed. This means that we will no longer be working on the project together due to these circumstances.
