Breadth of research – to improve.

Stress – to watch out for.

Main targets

  • to research workshop movement and community workshops
  • research special needs requirements and relationship to your workshops
  • research songwriting building blocks in relation to the SEN requirements
  • Start planning

Workshop – special Needs – songwriting workshop

Foundation of knowledge –

Workshop Movement – what is it, what is the purpose of it, some key workshop developments and leaders. Kenneth Bruscia, Nordoff Robbins, Trevor Wishart

Special needs group – what is the point of your workshop for them, what will they get out of it, how long will the sessions last for, what will they cover and how does this relate to the participants needs/requirements/desires, research of their needs and research on these disabilities. Identification of participants needs/requirements/desires for the sessions.

Songwriting – basics rhythm, harmony, melody, structure, lyrics. Decide on the participants needs and then relate this to the songwriting building blocks. Develop sessions that are fun, interesting and meet the requirements that you have identified.

Video for YouTube – iMovie production with DSLR footage

Video, think about how you will film it, what is the background like, does it look professional, what will you wear and how this sets a professional expectation (dependant on the audience, e.g. a suit and tie might not be suitable for a young audience). What kind of transitions you will use, the music examples you will use, visuals effects, visual examples of songwriting techniques, dialogue, the pace of session (too fast can’t keep up, to slow, boring), clickbait, font. All these elements create an identity for you as a YouTuber, think about the YouTube channels you follow and how they present themselves, look for some up to date cool ones. For example, Bestdressed, Peter McKinnon, Casey Neistat and loads of others. Think about what their brand looks like and what yours should be like?

Audience – beginner – songwriter or inexperienced. How will you attract audience and what are their demographics?  Think about what attracts you to YouTube videos, why do you pick the videos to watch? Is it the title, thumbnail, description, recommendation from YouTube, recommendations from friends?  Once you understand your own reasons this will help you choose your promotion methods.

Outcome – written own music, or song. This hasn’t changed but the access to instruments will shape some of it. Maybe think of other ways people can be involved rather than just guitar or keys.

Targets –

  • To work on practising video techniques and creating your brand.
  • To consider and research the audience and develop a workshop to match their needs/requirements/desires from the workshop.
  • To work on developing the content in relation to this research.
  • To develop promotional materials
