The issues brought up and how I plan on solving them:
- Will the clients need musical experience?
- Schools are very focused on the curriculum.
- Kids are going to get distracted easily.
- Could be easier to do a more well known song – as a cover.
- How will you measure the client’s learning?
- Organisation of who and where is important! Contact venues now. Music centres?
- Some people don’t take surveys seriously, maybe ask throughout too.
- When splitting sessions, set a deadline to add pressure and in turn focus.
I plan to solve these issues by taking into account a number of things. First of all, I need to target people who have musical experience as they will understand and want to learn about songwriting much more than other potential clients. I will target these ones by focusing my approach on music centres such as The Yorkshire Music School, Bingley Music Centre and Keighley Music Centre. This will also help with our worries regarding equipment. Next, I will make things more interesting so that people are less likely to become distracted. In order to do this, when planning the workshop I intend to add things such as games and popular music to interest the clients. Measuring the progress is important for us to know exactly how successful our workshop has been. I plan to hold a game of blockbusters (link below) where I will create a set of questions based on what we have taught during the session and the more questions that are answered correctly, the better progress that they have made. Furthermore, it could be a good idea to filter in assessments throughout the session or add some questions to the survey at the end. This survey will also need to be verbal as well as written because not all people take surveys seriously. Finally, if we plan on splitting sessions it would be a good idea to set a deadline so that the clients have added pressure to focus and get a song ready to perform by the final session.
I will edit my timetable so that I can start to contact venues now, which eliminates any timing problems. Week 2 and 4 will now happen in place of each other.
