Evaluations and Reflections

Week 1 & 2:

As the content of my first two weeks of the project is similar, I decided to reflect on them both at the same time. Something that I forgot to mention is how I will promote the ticketed event in the evening. I would like to have flyers in the street and on tables at the venues throughout the day for patrons to read but I think a really fun idea would be to offer a way to win a few free tickets via a raffle. All the money raised from the raffle would go to charity. I am aware that buying the raffle tickets on the day across multiple venues may make it difficult to announce the raffle ticket winner so I would most likely explain to those buying tickets that the winner will be announced on the Violet Live Events social media channels and possibly the underground’s at a specific time that day. Then anyone who purchased a raffle ticket but not a pre-paid ticket could receive discounts at the door.

During week 3 I did manage to take a look around Rewired during a completely different event – a Darts Competition. I took a couple of photos of their equipment. I noticed that they had a small Peavey PA, Orange Crush Bass amp, Marshall Guitar amp, drum kit and breakables and, an analogue desk. This is the perfect base layout needed for the acts I have booked for this venue.

Gig day:

I did receive a message on May 9th from the no-show artist apologising and saying that he had been struggling with mental and ill health and that is why he did not turn up.

Some things that I forgot to mention were that at the Underground we had a few cases of people attempting to not have to pay on the door. There were one or two individuals who were quite funny with me and did not appreciate that I was charging them £5. However, once I had explained that it was for charity and that there was another bar upstairs if they would prefer not to pay the entry fee they were a little bit more relaxed and understanding.

We also had an issue with possible underage drinking but the venue was fantastic and sorted it out immediately. Many of that part of the crowd ended up leaving after the first band anyway I think because that was who they had come to see, which is a shame as they missed out on two more fantastic performances.
