After Covid and the cost of living crisis, there have been a lot of small venues that have been forced to close due to lack of revenue and footfall. This is something that is important to me, as I am working with a small venue to put on this gig. The Mill is part of the Music Venues Trust (MVT), a charity wanting to improve and secure venues (Team, 2023). MVT say that 30% of small UK music venues are at risk of closing (Savage, 2023). The band Enter Shikari saw that this is a large issue and promised, “We’re donating £1 per ticket of our upcoming arena tour to preserve the rest – and it should become standard practice”(2023).

Technological advancements in recent years have redefined how people attend live music events, from live streams to in-game concerts. The “Metaverse” as many are referring to it, is the online world – often relating to Virtual-Reality. One example, in particular, is Fortnite concerts. August 6th-8th 2021, held the ‘Rift Tour’ by Ariana Grande. This was an interactive experience, transporting fans into “mini-games” instead of a standstill concert (Tien-Dana, 2022). As an event organiser interested in gaming, this could be something to explore in the future.

In addition to the gaming industry, there are plenty of live-streamed concerts that have emerged since the pandemic. One company, in particular, Veeps are doing live-streaming for festivals like Sad Summer and artists like Haley Williams, Waterparks and Def Leppard for worldwide viewers.
