Rehearsal Video:
This video was taken during our second rehearsal. I think that throughout the rehearsal, each run-through had been good. However, once we set it to film, we all made quite a few mistakes. The guitar part has a couple of wrong notes, I believe that the drums kept speeding up the tempo and this led me to find it harder to breathe. I was struggling to sing during this practice for multiple reasons. Firstly, we had been practising for about an hour and my voice was starting to feel strained. Secondly, we had not established a solid tempo at which to play due to a lack of communication within the band and this resulted in the aforementioned breathlessness. As well as this, I feel that I lacked confidence as I had only been through the song with my vocal teacher twice at this point and we had not covered the entire song.
Raw Footage:
After seeing this original footage, I already would like to change a few things. First of all, the lighting is exactly the colouring I wanted but it is quite dark. So, it would be good to use a brightness tool in the edit. Another thing is that there is no camera movement or angle changes so once the footage is edited, I would hope that the editor uses the other camera angles.
On the day of the recording, I was unwell, and after five takes of the song my voice felt hoarse and I was coughing a lot. Therefore we are choosing to go with take three as this is at a point where I had warmed up my voice enough and was more relaxed. This means that when the audio is mixed I may need to add a little bit of auto-tune. It will also have a greater quality as we will be using the microphone audio, not the camera audio.
Final Video Edit:
Immediately, this is already better visually. The brightness has been rectified and not only makes me stand out but also improves the effect of the coloured lighting. There are plenty of varied shots, one I really like is the close-up of the guitar and my side profile (1:39).
My main concern with this is the audio. I think that the amount of auto-tune added to my voice was too much and made me sound robotic or alien-like. However, the instruments are exactly how I want them to sound.
Final Video and Audio Edit:
The final version of the edit is exactly what I was looking for, with a polished, professional finish. The shots are correctly edited at a pace that reflects the softer pace of an acoustic track, while still retaining an engaging momentum. The lighting is soft and diffused, which also suits the style of the music while allowing the viewer to see me and the colours of the location clearly. The colouring in the video keeps to my chosen style, fitting my brand much more closely than previous videos.
The audio mix has had the autotune toned down, making me sound much less robotic, as well as my vocals being balanced better with the guitars.
