This performance video is a good first edit. However, as it is only the first draft, I have some notes to improve it. First of all, the first angle of the camera is behind me and with a filter added. This does not match the rest of the video and whenever it returns it provides a huge distraction to the performance. I believe the use of this is down to the fact that the quality of this particular camera is poor and grainy in comparison to the other ones used.
Next is camera mobility, which feels awkward and shaky at times. At 0:17 the zoom is immediate, too fast, and unstable. If this had been done in post-production as a ‘ken burns’ i believe the movement would have been much more fluid and successful. At 0:50, the camera pans away from me and focuses the audience onto another camera. The ‘subject’ of the video should be me and drawing attention away from this yet again distracts from the performance.
On a more positive note, I like the angles that have been used. The wide shot from my left side (see 2:49) in particular I like because of the way the lighting looks. I also love the angle used at 0:42/1:26. The use of varied angles keeps the video interesting but at 0:23, the straight-on close-up of me I do not like.

This performance video is a good first edit, however, there is room for improvement. First of all, the first angle of the camera is behind me and uses a filter. This does not match the rest of the video and whenever it returns it provides a huge distraction to the performance, this is down to the fact that the quality of this particular camera is poor and grainy in comparison to the other ones used. It does not add anything to the video and takes away from the high definition of the rest of the footage.
Next is camera movement, which feels awkward and shaky at times. At 0:17 the camera begins to zoom in but then cuts to another camera angle which is also zooming in, this creates a jarring effect. The use of zooms throughout the video does not suit the style of my music and has inconsistent speed and is shaky throughout almost the entire video. I would like to include some zooms in the video but only if they were to be stable and consistent throughout, being completed fully before a camera change and only if completely necessary to add a sense of movement that generates an interesting focus on my performance as opposed to a boring static video.
At 0:50, the camera pans away from me and focuses the viewer onto the studio lights. The ‘subject’ of the video is me and so drawing attention away from this also distracts from the performance.
The editing in this video is inconsistent, with cuts often being too fast or during camera movement, this is something that detracts from the slower-paced music I am playing. A far slower and more concise edit would be more successful in reflecting my brand and the professionalism that I am striving for, not a video with a thrown-together and chaotic feel.
The colour in the video is very monochromatic, which again does not suit the warmer tone I would have preferred. The lighting is very flat and even though multiple lights were used looks like it is all from one source. This creates a dramatic look that does not fit the style of my brand as well as not separate me from the black curtains enough. I would have preferred a coloured backdrop and some lighting with different gels or colour balances to highlight my wardrobe and makeup. The colour is also not consistent between cameras, creating another jarring effect for the viewer.
On a more positive note, I like the angles that have been used. The wide shot from my left side (see 2:49) in particular I like because of the way the lighting frames me against the dark of the studio space and provides more of a soft glow effect compared to the harsh lighting in the rest of the video. I also love the angle used at 1:26 as it highlights me against negative space, reflecting the longing feel in the song I sang.
