Evaluation:
I thought my audition was successful because I memorised the lyrics, which is good because it meant that the mistakes I made on the keyboard weren’t as obvious. However, these mistakes made the performance bad as they made it seem like it had not been rehearsed but that is not the case as beforehand, the rehearsal was perfect. The mistakes were caused by nerves and unfamiliarity with the equipment and setting.
In order to improve for next time, I need to work on managing my nerves and familiarise myself with the equipment used here at Bradford College. I also need to improve on my confidence and projecting my voice while I sing because it is quite difficult to hear over the sound of the keyboard.
Why I Chose To Play This Piece:
When this song was released, I immediately felt a connection with it. The band 5 Seconds Of Summer have a lot of different songs with different genres and this is one of their only songs which use mostly piano. My interpretation of the lyrics is about the loss of a loved one, which enables me to express more emotions when performing this.
Another reason I chose it was because it is a piece that I have practiced many times and have performed it at school shows in the past. This is the first time that I have performed it as a solo instead of a duet in quite a while, which could also be a factor as to why I made so many mistakes and makes me think that I should work on my solo work more than my ensemble performances.
