Games Design

How can you use graphics, sound and filming in games.

sound is used in games to pull the player into the game and make the player feel more like they are in the game’s world also it helps to make certain situations in the game feel more epic and instance.

Graphics are used in a game well to make the game because if you dont have any graphics your game will be mostly white blocks and stuff like that so graphics is a must have unless its a game where you type and read and that’s it then you don’t need graphics.

filming in games is mostly used for cinematic and to follow the character so you can play the game that’s usually it and it’s used in 3D games, also filming is used to make game trailers but that’s more of a promotion than the game it’s self

1. What Makes a Good Level?

Creating a level is more than just designing a layout and building whatever environment you feel like building. Good level design amps up the player experience. As you’ll see throughout these tutorials, a common theme is to build a level with purpose.

You won’t be designing a level for the sake of designing a level. You’ll design a level that tells a story, has character, and serves a real purpose within the game.

Ultimately though, the level needs to be fun.(Guides: Game Design Level Creation for Beginners, 2021)

How to design levels for a platformer

  2. Make a list. Make a list of everything you want the player to experience in the level.
  3. Make a rough layout.
  4. Make rough sketches for the specific items.
  5. Make a detailed layout.
  6. Build the initial layout.

This image is from my game demo it’s not near finishing but it’s already playable, you can loose the game if you die for now death is triggered by the red rectangle in the left side of the image later I plan to replace it with a lasers or spikes or something like that. Sadly i haven’t made a finish yet so there’s no way to finish the demo. later i plan to replace the little box character with an a proper character. I also need to crate enemy’s and buffs all tho i think ill change the buffs to weapons.

Evaluation

I spent a lot of time re-doing my level because it didn’t save so i lost quiet a lot of things i had made before for example in the last demo that didn’t save i had made two levels but now i need to remake both so i decided to put more work on the first level and to be fair i have gone away from the plan and crated a similar level but with a lot of different things foe example i decided to hide the finish behind a wall which you can step threw and ill have a other secret lower down the level.

I heaven’t finished the demo game, i say its not finished because you cant finish the demo, but i did add some extra things in the level, i have more lasers and drops, so its possible to die in the game but sadly i didn’t finish it because of other lessons with there projects i needed to do. plus the quarantine kinda messed up the timing of my work. i have learned that i should try working a little faster and check if the game saves instead of leaving to find out that everything is gone, and that i need to remake everything
