FMP

Proposal for FMP

Name: Nils Slivackis

Shadow crystal

I decided to make a game for FMP because I really want to work in the games industry, and I am really interested in the game creation process, and I have learned a lot about it over time, so it only makes sense to make a game.

I have decided to make a 3D game inspired by games called Hallowed Knight and deaths door. Both games gave me ideas on the art style and mechanics in my own game. Also, I took some inspiration from legends and myths around the world like Slavic myths about baba yaga or leshy.

Also I am really interested in games, books and films of the fantasy genre and I will use a lot of things from this genre like magic, creatures and locations I have taken a lot of inspiration form the books of professor J.R.R Tolkien.

For my idea I will make a 3D platformer hack and slash game. It will be a demo level because I will not have enough time to create the full game, but I will try to tell the story I have planned as much as possible.

For my character idea I am thinking of making something of a plague doctor style warrior with a sword and a bow, as for the enemies I am thinking of creating a spell cursed rat creatures that have been created by dark magic to take over the world, I am planning multiple types of these creatures to give the players a diversity in combat and some problems to solve while playing.

As for the level itself, I am planning to add a lot of puzzles and multiple ways to solve them to make the game more interesting and add some depth to it, for example one of the puzzles I have in mind will involve you moving boxes around the room in a certain pattern to open a door and progress the level further and because the game is going to be for children and adults, I will leave some hints for the puzzles.

I spent a lot of time learning about 3D modeling to improve my skills and to make a better game and I have also created a lot of concept art for my game and decided which ideas I preferred and which ones will stay as a concept for now, I have also spent a lot of time reading about different monsters and creatures I can use in my game the book I read is called “the world of the Witcher” which talks about all the creatures, locations and even weapons from the game series of Witcher.

Returning to the puzzles I have researched the best escape room puzzles to use in the game and I will have people think about the problem and how to solve it, the one puzzle I found interesting is a light puzzle it involves the player using the light to get clues to progress further.

And like I mentioned before I was inspired by the style of hallowed knights’ game, and I have spent a lot of time playing the game to learn the art style of it to use a similar one in my own game.

Light

There are numerous ways to use light in an escape room.

Light can be used as a tool to reveal or hide clues. It can also be used to create atmosphere, supporting your theme and helping immerse your players in the environment you’ve created.

When considering the types of lights and light effects you’d like to use in your escape room, keep your theme in mind. A black light may fit into your nightclub or biolab theme perfectly but may seem out of place in a pirate ship or a castle dungeon.

Idea 8: Place a code on a spinning fan so that it can only be read using a stroboscope in the dark.

[Tip: Make sure you warn players in advance if using any kind of strobe light effect; strobe lights can cause customers with epilepsy to have seizures.]

Idea 9: Create clues that glow in the dark.

Idea 10: Require players to navigate a completely dark environment.

Idea 11: Write clues or messages with UV-paint (transparent or otherwise).

Idea 12: Use a lamp and a sundial to reveal a hidden door.

Idea 13: Create a three- to four-character sequence out of Christmas lights on the ceiling, then surround it with additional lights. Design a switch that shuts off the additional lights, leaving only your code lit up. Require players to find and figure out how to use the switch in order to read the code.

Also, I spent a lot of time getting ready for the level design side of the game crating because I have less experience in that, so I researched some beginner information on taht as well
