Personal Statement

I am applying for a course in games development because I am passionate about the subject and potential opportunities for career development. It has been both a hobby and passion of mine for quite a few years now and applying for University will help further expand my knowledge in the field of gaming, design, programming etc.
Since I was young I loved to play games and at around 13 years old I decided to jump into Unity and make my own small games, I then fell in love with it and ever since I have been creating and programming games to both challenge myself while also trying to create the best end product I can.
I also try to take inspiration from a multitude of places so that I can implement aspects and mechanics in my own way, for example in college I learned how to rig and animate 3D characters in Maya by using the timeline and keyframes and how to export them to an FBX file to use in Unity, these models were then used in our projects. I feel I am suitable because I can code at an intermediate level in various languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript and Python. I am capable of creating basic 3D low poly models, textures etc. and have experience mainly in the Unity Editor, Photoshop and Maya. For my second year, my final grade was a distinction.
Over the past few years in college, I have learned a lot from working with classmates on projects and implemented my expertise into several projects I’ve worked on which will also be very applicable to the course I apply to. I also like to help others and hope they learn some skills from me along the way.
I have been studying games for 3 years at college and I have been able to create both a 2D game and a 3D game with friends/classmates. I have taken part in an after college games club which I helped create with the help of a fellow student and through this we helped gather funds for a college trip to an arcade in Manchester. (fiberclean.com) I have also worked on projects outside of college to further my knowledge for example a discord bot I worked on required me to code in
JavaScript and I learned a lot of methods and practices along the way that will transfer across different projects and languages, another example is the games club aforementioned where we were tasked to create a 2D game about online safety, I was able to provide my ideas and programming knowledge and eventually earned a silver award.
My hobbies are watching movies, shows, playing games and collaborating on projects with friends as I find it very fun to research and develop something, learning new things and overcoming obstacles along the way. I am also interested in creating things that require me to code in a different language such as APIs, bots, mods etc. as I find it enjoyable and having this knowledge could be useful in future.
I think University will allow me to further my career in games programming and design and become the best developer I can be, it will also provide me with lots of opportunities to become financially stable.
