Job Title

Lighting Technician (Lampy):

A lighting technician must be capable of doing risk assessments, running cables, rigging lighting, adhering to a lighting designer’s plan, and much more, according to the National Careers Service (Gov. UK). These tasks could be completed anywhere, such as a live music concert or a music video shoot. Their annual income ranges from £15,000 to £40,000, the same as that of a sound technician.

For this project I played the role of a lighting technician, at first I had no idea how it works because I had never looked into it so I was going in there with zero knowledge, Lewis arranged a couple sessions for me with the regular lighting technician who taught how to work pre sets on light meaning I would have the settings loaded up and at appropriate timing I would just press the buttons and the lights would move themselves.

Since I was going in there with a fresh mind and not a lot of understanding on how to work the interface I choose to do the lights free hand, without pre sets, which implies that I would be controlling every single light on its own from the controls and I’d have to trigger special effects and spotlights at the right time. I found this method a lot easier since I perform myself and know how the lightings are supposed to look like and my hands were trained to press the right button at the right time from DJ sessions I took a while back. It was a bit tricky in the start but as the show went on I got more comfortable with the controls, Although the method I choose was a lot harder than using pre sets, I personally enjoyed it because it was challenging, I had to be aware of what’s going on around the stage at all time and all my senses were occupied which I found thrilling an fun at the same time.
