In my opinion, Everyone did a great job with the tasks they were assigned whether it was performance, Recording, Camera work or lighting, We all came together and aced the final performance.
Our band, The umbrellas, We performed our 2 songs only once and we didn’t need a 2nd take so I was real happy about that. I personally think that I did a good job on the guitar. I was in sync with the tempo and I remembered all the chords which allowed me to go through the songs without any musical errors.
However I did face a minor setback but I recovered really well from that without anyone noticing. While we were performing “Chelsea Dagger” my guitar pick flew out of my hand and fell on the floor. Instead of trying to pick it up I started strumming with my fingers which wasn’t a pleasant experience but it got the job done so I didn’t stop until the end of the song obviously and by then my fingers were swollen but I didn’t care because I had such a great time performing the songs with the band.
I was a cameraman on the day as well so unlike the last time I was prepared and I understood the role so I acted accordingly. I tried to take as many different angles as I could and I Improved my timing of different shots as well. There was 1 specific shot which I wasn’t ready for at all but I pulled it off anyways. It was when Millie from ‘Millie and the floor gang’ decided to take the mic and go to the centre of the stage. I blanked out and I just focused on keeping the camera on Millie. I was so grateful towards the tripod because it allowed me to stay steady and focus on Millie the whole time. I personally didn’t expect that I’ll be able to pull that off but I did and I was quite happy about it. If I am required to do camera work again I’ll work on different panning shots and maybe get some equipment that gives me more mobility with the camera so I can get more different angles and shots and add some movement to the shots.
I also helped Tom setting up the sound and the stage. My job was to setup the monitors which wasn’t much but that’s all Tom needed me for. Because I had setup the stage last year as well I remembered how to setup the monitors and a lot more which is why that task wasn’t a problem at all.
Because I didn’t have much work of my own I decided to help out James and Alfie with their interviews with the first year. James and Alfie wrote the questions and recorded whilst I asked students the questions. We we’re planning on interviewing all the students but our timing wasn’t right. Most of the students had gone out for lunch so we only managed to get around 5 of them. The interviews went quite smoothly. I tried my best to make the students feel as comfortable as I could in front of the camera so I stood right next to them instead of standing behind the camera and kept the conversation as light as possible which seemed to work. The student we’re pretty comfortable and they did a good job with the interviews as well.
