My Research ~ The relationships between Filming, Graphics, and Audio.

Audio: Audio is one of the main demands when games designing. This is because, Audio is needed for the character voice-overs, background music, soundtracks and anything else with audio included for the final game. Game designers will also use audio to decide whether the narrators voice will be male, female, old, young, etc for the game.

Filming: When filmmaking was first discovered, inputting audio was not possible. This was due to technological limitations. This is why it was pretty much impossible to create video games – the lack of audio. Unlike nowadays, we have plenty of new technology and can do amazing things with it.

Graphics: Video games also have their own original soundtracks for their games. Some video games will even allow you to listen to your own playlist instead of their library of soundtracks. The time taken to create soundtracks for video games entirely depends on the game developers. This is because they will have deadlines for when they want the video game to be released to the public.

My Games Design Project

The attachment above is my mapped pen and paper drawing of my games first level. My original game idea was to design a racing game. However, when it came to designing my final project for my game level on Construct 3, it was too complicated for me to design. This was because I was limited to what I could use for my designing. So I ended up changing my game to a platform jumping level.

My Project Evaluation

Task Explanation: For this task, I was asked to map out the draft for one game level on paper. Once this was completed I had to go to a printer and create a digital pdf scan of my draft. I then had to send it to my email so I could save the digital version in my files for proof.

What issues did I come across during preparation?: I only came across two issues during this process.

The first issue was that I really struggled to come up with an initial idea for my game level at first. It was really frustrating for me at this point, because, as you could probably figure out – I was against time.

The second issue that I came across was that I am very easily distracted. This wasn’t very convenient, because I have friends doing the same course as me. Me and friends are always talking to each other, so it was hard at first. However, once we’ve all settled down – we get our heads down and do our work.

What were my solutions to those issues?: My first issue was resolved by me deciding to think of a game I already like playing and base it off of that. I also changed it up a little, of course. That idea, was to create a racing level.

The solution to my second issue was to listen to my music to help me stay focussed on my work. It also helped me block out my friends and other distractions in general. This was an effective solution for me.

What issues did I come across during designing my game?: I only came across one issue during the process of designing my game.

That issue was that when it came to the designing on Construct 3, the idea had was too complicated to do within my time stretch. It was also because I was limited to what I could use on the site for my designing.

How did I come to the resolution?: I resolved this issue by changing my level design.

I resulted in designing a jumping platform game level. I used a FREE built in design package on Construct 3 to design my game level. I managed to complete my design within 3 hours worth of lesson time.

Overall, I am very happy with my final game level design. I believe that I put a lot of effort into the designing.
