Proposal:
For my FMP, I am going to be doing a short film on stalking. The aim of the film is to help women feel a lot safer when they’re out by themselves in public, and feeling vulnerable. I believe this is perfect for the Incognito theme that I MUST include in my project. Stalking is a type of incognito, as it is a sly activity. It is mostly unknown to the victim until confronted or approached by their predator. It is also a massive issue in society within this generation. There is also a really big issue on a sexual harassment crime recently committed by a Police Officer upon a young woman. I feel that this is a good way to spread awareness too. Simply because this young woman could have been preyed upon and/or potentially stalked by the police officer, prior to this sexual assault.
Rationale:
Skills I have acquired from studying this course:
Filming – Shooting different camera angles; This course allowed me to learn how to shoot match cuts, cross cuts, following-action cuts, jump cuts, etc. All of which I had zero knowledge of within the filming industry prior to starting this course. Filming was probably the lesson that I enjoyed the least throughout my studies.
Audio – Creating Audio Foley; I learned how to use a software called Garage Band. This software allowed me to create my own Audio Foley Project. I learned how to use the app efficiently. I also learned what an Audio Foley is, and how to create them. Audio Foley is a creation of original sounds to go with movements. This is all done by tapping of walls, clapping objects together, creating footsteps, etc. to create your desired sounds. For example, hitting two coconuts together would create a sound for a horse galloping. This is professionally known as the role of a “Foley Artist”. This was all unknown to me, prior to joining my course. At this point in time, Audio was my favourite lesson.
Gaming & Graphics – 2D Platform Game Design; I learned how to create my own 2D Platform Game on a website called Construct 3. I also learned how to use the website. On Construct 3, I was provided with a free built in texture pack from the website. This allowed me to create my own 2D platform game using the provided texture package. I was able to choose which platform design I wanted from the package to create my platforms. I also created one of my own pixel art creations for my avatar that was used to jump the different platform levels during the gameplay. I really enjoyed this lesson at first. However, I then decided that I didn’t like this anymore. Then I started to move more towards Audio.
Project Concept:
I am going to create my project by using one of my college’s provided cameras. I will be filming on college premises. This is simply because it’s the best and easiest place for me to shoot my short film. My target audience is for anyone (preferably women) in the age bracket of 14 and/or above.
The aim of this short film is multi-purpose; to help spread awareness for stalking, mainly upon women. However, it is just for general awareness as well. It also to try and help people (again, mainly women) feel safer when they’re walking home by themselves and feeling vulnerable. I want to help spread the word that just because you’re walking home or wherever you may be going alone, does NOT always mean that you will be preyed upon by someone. I will also put a disclaimer at the end of the short film. This will be a piece of text at the end credits. This will consist of different websites that you can visit. Simply for help and advice, if you OR someone you know may be endangered.
Research:
Case Study: ‘YOU’ – Netflix Original Series.
Genre: Thriller
‘YOU‘ is a series about a male stalker who preys upon a woman similar to his age and ends up having a relationship with her.
Source 1: This is not a true story. It is Fiction. It is an adaption of a best-selling novel called ‘YOU’ by Caroline Kepnes.
Source 2: The main question throughout the storyline of the series is “What would you do for love?” Joe (the stalker) innocently crosses paths in a book store with a woman called Love (the woman he ends up stalking). Love is the manager of this bookstore. This all started as a completely innocent thing at first. However, he soon becomes obsessed with her and ends up stalking her. You’re probably asking if the question is now referred to as love as a general subject or the woman, Love. Well, the answer to that, is simply both. Joe’s obsession towards Love soon turns into him falling for her. Joe does his stalking so sly, that Love doesn’t even suspect a thing towards Joe’s approach at first. Which would be expected, it’s a completely natural environment to come across people.

Evaluation:
My first aim for this project is to spread awareness for Sexual Assault. My second aim is to help women and society in general to feel safe/safer when they’re making their ways home or said location. Especially if they’re by themselves and are defenceless. My second aim is to make my character feel safe when alone in public at any point in the day.
I intend to record my decision-making by using previous shot styles that I have researched about during previous lessons. For example, I will be using a tracking shot to show my character feeling like they’re being followed, but actually isn’t – they’re suffering from paranoia. This will also suggest that it’s completely natural to feel on edge when you’re by yourself in public.
I will not be filming this by myself. I will be working in collaboration with a friend. They’re another student in my college. They will be my main and only character in my short films (as there will be no stalker). Which is another reason why I will be filming in college grounds. It’s the only place where we will have enough time to shoot my short film. It is also the most convenient location to film, as there’s always free rooms. This means that we can shoot my film without interruptions.
While I was the filming, I decided to change my mind of what scenes I was going to film. I still portrayed my incognito theme by a film about the paranoia of being stalked. For my final outcome, I personally believe that my change of scenes was a lot more beneficial for me. I still filmed all of my footage on college campus. I recorded the dialogue, using the voice recording app on my phone and imported the audio into my project when editing.
