(Dunham, 2020)

On the website, it explains the different match cut with a video for example like how it explains “match on action cut transition in the graduate” and how it is help show “the passing of time”.

Cross-cutting: cross-cutting is an editing trick that tricks the viewers into thinking that the clips are not related in some way or that is happening at the same time.

An example of a cross-cutting is when Sherlock told the victim the killer name and address to the killer then were are shown the killer entering a room that is filled with officers to arrest him and then Sherlock told then victim he was arrested at 21:00 hours.

There are many example of cross cutting

Show actions across multiple locations

Show actions that occur simultaneously

Create a narrative parallel to compare and contrast

The video below is the my own creation on match cutting

My idea of cross-cutting is that one man is making a mess of a room while another man is walking down the corridor to the room but and the people think there going to meet but it happening at different times.

I feel think this show good examples of cross-cutting as it shows manipulation of time.

The website where i found more fact about cross cutting give good example of cross cutting in films and the rules about cross cutting and tell you the different between cross cutting and Parallel editing.

What I think work really well with this cross-cutting was the manipulation of time as at the end the viewer know that the two people that was recorded at a different time but what I believe could improve the piece of work is I were to add different shots but I couldn’t because of the lack of time in the editing but I also could make the “two hours later” more subtle as maybe have a close up of a clock in a room and then close up a character checking his watch and that can also show viewers how time past.

with this short film it show the change of focus from the character to the paper then to the bag and others

what I believe is the most important thing about the short film is the change of focus as it can change from a piece of paper to a pen in someone hands.

Dunham, B., 2020. Best Match Cuts And Creative Transitions In Cinema.
