Section 1: Rationale (approx. 100 words)
For me, project one was not very enjoyable. We were required to perform five tracks to a live audience at a charity gig held here at Bradford College. The reason I didn’t enjoy it was because I don’t feel comfortable playing instruments live for a crowd. I personally feared the idea of messing up my parts and ruining a song for the rest of my band and for the audience. Although the gig went well I still didn’t enjoy the project as a whole; I much prefer production to performance and so this just wasn’t something I necessarily wanted to do. I took piano skills away from this project if anything. I learned where chords and notes were on the piano which made future playing a lot easier. I am going to take these skills into my final project as I am sure I will be recording some piano in a track at some point.
Project two was one of the more enjoyable projects for me to complete. In project two we were asked to compose two tracks, one for a Shakespearean sonnet (Sonnet 12) and one as a band to be performed at a live venue. The reason I enjoyed this project was because although I didn’t take too well to performing, I was able to compose which is something I am much more passionate about. I took the skill of composing away from this project, the creative element of composing anyways. This will help greatly when coming up with idea’s to help veronica if she was having issues coming up with anything. Project three was probably the project I most disliked. We were tasked with performing in a tribute band. One band paid tribute to Queen and the other Bob Marley. I disliked this project because I was placed in the Bob Marley tribute band and as much as I respect his legendary status, I dislike his music. So playing in a tribute band of an artist who I don’t really like for a live audience was easily the project I most disliked. I didn’t really take anything away from this project besides an appreciation for Bob Marley’s music and his influence. Project four was my favourite project up to date. We did studio practice and so we got the opportunity to record a band playing and then mix down their recording. This project allowed me to learn about things that I actually wanted to do such as production. The product that we finished with was a mix of a recording. I took away recording skills from this project. I am going to use those massively in my final project because my role is to record and mix my project.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My final project is going to be an EP which will be four tracks long. My role in this process is to produce the tracks so I will be recording and mixing down the tracks. As well as producing I will also be playing keyboard in some of the tracks. The concept of the EP is heartbreak. The second task I have to do is perform the EP live to an audience on showcase week. To do these things there are quite a few things I need to do to complete them. Firstly I need to plan out how long I will spend on research. Researching into different production techniques will help me have a greater understanding of which ways are best to record acoustic songs and even a live EP’s. In this project I will need a lot of resources. I’ll need a live room/recording studio in order to actually record the EP. I’ll need access to a sound desk, a midi keyboard, computer, software and various microphones and stands, I will also be micing up the instruments.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
During the project I am going to be keeping a diary of notes and decisions I make as the producer of the group. I might even bounce down a rough version of a mix and listen out for certain instruments and effects that need changing or that can stay as they are. I am going to evaluate with the best amount of self criticism and honesty that I can so that I don’t sugar coat the truth and potentially release a terrible mix. |

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)
I am going to use books and articles online to find out new information about producing. I am also going to do some physical research by trying out different things and seeing what works best for me.
I am going to use Sound On Sound magazine. Youtube. Various other websites and digital articles as well as physical articles.
