1. Budget<\/h2>\n

Because DIY recording has become more accessible\u00a0in recent years with people being able to create whole albums using only a laptop, you can pretty much find a recording studio for any budget. That being said, we will still want to look at how much money we are willing to spend and get the best studio for that amount of money. This is where shopping around for different studios will come in.<\/p>\n

2. Location<\/h2>\n

Because we are a small band, and none of us can drive, we will need to pick a recording studio that is local to us. Because we will be looking at the inexpensive side of recording studios, it is likely that their equipment won’t be as good, so bringing our own gear will be a necessity. Due to this, we will wave to find a studio in the local area that narrows down our options.<\/p>\n

3. Sound<\/h2>\n

The next thing we can focus on is the sound that we want to go for, and what studio will give us the best sounding EP.<\/p>\n

4. Facilities and equipment<\/h2>\n

After all of this has been decided, we will have to look at the equipment that we want to use. As stated before, our budget of studios will most likely not have the best kit. Because\u00a0of this, we will most likely end up bringing our own gear as we all have high-quality equipment.\u00a0However, when deciding studios we may find a diamond\u00a0in the rough that\u00a0has really good gear.<\/p>\n

Pros: close to home, good reviews from people who went there, a range of talented staff to pick from<\/p>\n

Cons: equipment is a bit underwhelming, small live room – this is not ideal for the drum sound that I am going for on this EP. For the EP I want the drums to sound huge, which in turn will need a big room to capture all of the ambience.<\/p>\n

Pros: another local studio, High-quality equipment, a range of different sized live rooms to pick from would be great as they seem to have some larger ones where the drums would sound good.<\/p>\n

Cons: \u00a3200 a day as well as \u00a322 per hour for mixing. This is far too expensive for us and therefore we are unable to use it.<\/p>\n

Pros: outstanding equipment, professional looking website which gives the impression that they will be professional people to work with.<\/p>\n

Cons: \u00a3250 per day. This is far too expensive for our budget and therefore we aren’t able to use this studio.<\/p>\n

Pros: decent live room with high ceilings and big windows, reputable engineer – Kurt has recorded The marmozets who I have listened to in the past and therefore know what kind of quality he is able of achieving, he is also a mate of Liam our guitarist and has agreed to do us a discount of \u00a3150 per day.<\/p>\n

Cons: in Keighley\u00a0so is a fair distance from Bradford. However, it could be worth the extra travel to save money on the recording.<\/p>\n

Due to all of these factors, we have decided to go with Corner house recording studio as we are aware of the standards that Kurt works to. He also recorded Liams band in the past and therefore is very highly recomended by Liam. Because of all of the research I have done, I am confident that this will be the right studio for us and that we will not regret our decision.<\/p>\n
