Studio Plan

Below is the correspondance that I had with the owner of Corner house recording studio, Kurt Wood

As you can see, Kurt has very kindly given us a discount over the two days since he has recorded Liam’s old band and them two have been friends since. In this chain of messages, Kurt gave me a list of the equipment he has at the studio. In terms of the drums, the house kit is a basic beginner kit, whereas mine is a more expensive and higher quality kit. I have decided that due to this, I will bringing my own kit as I have the confidence that it will sound a lot better than the house kit.

As for the guitar and bass amps, they are of good quality, but no better quality than what my bassist and guitarist already own. Due to this, it makes more sense for us all to bring our own gear that we are comfortable with and know how to work with.

The reason I enquired as to what program they use to record was that I had created my tempo maps on Logic pro. Luckily, they record on Logic which means we can load my already made tempo maps and record straight onto them. This saves us either playing along to a bounce of my tempo maps, or me remaking them on a different program.

In this string of messages, I am sorting out when the best time to get to the studio is, and also what time they close. Since I am taking my drums with me, I will have to drive there. I want to get there as early as possible to set up my drums so that we waste as little time as possible as a band. When paying for a studio, time is money, so the quicker we get things done, the better.

Below is the checklist of things that I need to take to the recording studio with me. I made this list so that I knew everything that I would need to take with me and so that I wouldn’t forget anything. I don’t have the greatest memory so planning a list in advance was hugely advantageous to me.

All in all, I am very glad I planned everything that would need to for the recording process. Without this planning, I would’ve been playing on an arguably worse sounding drum kit, potentially wouldn’t have been able to use the tempo maps that I made, or would have definitely forgotten something that would’ve been a necessity. Because of these factors and the way I prevented them, I can say that this studio plan was a success.
