My initial idea for my final project is to write, record, and release an album with my band, CHAPODIO. As well as arrange and perform on a tour to promote the album. I am the drummer for our band and my main role in this project is to be the drummer to produce an album and go tour with CHAPODIO. As a band, we are aiming to produce a ten track album to be recorded and mixed either at a private studio outside of college or recorded in college, mixed and mastered by a professional. The actual number of songs we are going to produce will be dependant on how much time and money we have available. This will also influence whether we record inside or outside of college. For the tour, we are aiming to do it around the north of England, and perform at ten venues. We would prefer to perform at actual live music venues and clubs as opposed to pubs and bars. However, this will be dependant on how many tickets we can sell and how much of a crowd we can draw in.
Due to the feedback I received from my tutors and peers, my band and I have decided that instead of producing a ten-track album and organising a tour, we are just going to produce a two-track EP and a music video to go along with one of the songs. We have decided this because, in the short time frame that we have, we would massively be overloading ourselves with work. Because this project is only 12 weeks long, that is not enough time to properly write, plan, produce and promote a full ten-track album, let alone organising a tour on top of that, no matter how small. We fell as though sticking to a two-track EP with a music video is a much more achievable and realistic goal. It also gives us a chance to do what we did last year but better as that was a very enjoyable project. Last year we produced a four-track EP using the college facilities. This year, we plan to produce a two-track EP in a professional studio and produce a music video to go with one of the tracks. I am very much looking forward to this project as it is now a lot more realistic and appropriate for the stage we are currently at in our careers. Because our project how now changed, so has my role within the project. Instead of just being the drummer (which I still am), I am also going to be in charge of the recording process. This means I will mainly be in charge of picking the studio we record in and liaising with the engineer about everything that is going to happen. I have chosen this role because it is one of the areas I am most proficient in. Last year for our final project, I was in charge of the recording process and enjoyed it very much. I tend to thrive in the studio environment so it was naturally the route I wanted to take. Also, within the band, I am the most experienced and knowledgable when it comes to the recording side of things. Due to this, it made the most sense for me to in charge of the recording process. The other students that I will be collaborating with in my band will also have their own individual roles. Cain, the bassist, will be in charge of the entire band in a managerial sort of role. Sonny, the vocalist, Will be in charge of producing the music video.
I very much look forward to starting this project and hope that you enjoy my process.
