Potential Problems

The recording studio can’t take us. For some reason the studio cant take us – To get around this, we would have to record the EP using our college facilities which wouldn’t be ideal but would have to be done as it’s hard to get studio time short notice. We would then see if we could get the recording engineer to come to college and record us there. If that was still a no, then we would have to do the same as last year and do it ourselves with the aid if the college tutors.

Lineup changes. We change members/ members leave and have to pick up their slack – If this problem occurred, depending on who it was that left, we would have to divide their responsibilities between the band and finish the project without them. At the same time as this, we would be looking to find a new member if we couldn’t carry on without their presence after the project.

We dislike the final mixes. We find something wrong with the mixes – To avoid this happening, we will all have to be present for the mixing process to make sure we can give the engineer direct feedback and make sure that we are 100% happy with the final mixes. This would be in order to prevent what happened last year when we had a major problem with the mixes being that we used the completely wrong guitar effect on one of the sections of the song. This was down to us having to send our feedback over email and not being able to hear the final mix until it was too late.

We can’t get our artwork completed in time. Whether this is for the EP or the merch – to solve this, We will have more than one artist making potential artwork for us so that there is always something to fall back on. If both artists fail to get their artwork completed, we will have to use one of the photos of the band from a photoshoot we did for cover art. This would have to be a last resort option as it wouldn’t look as professional. However, some bands and artists do have pictures of themselves for cover art so we would be able to make it work.

I injure myself or I get ill. I hurt myself to the point of not being able to play – As I am the drummer, we would have to postpone live shows as we can’t play without the drums, but as for the recording aspect. We could use drum samples if I was not able to play. This is a fairly common option for bands especially when recording on a budget as we are. To prevent this, I will make sure that myself and the rest of the band stay healthy and avoid any strenuous exercises in the weeks leading up to gigs and our time in the recording studio.

Someone we need may not turn up. Necessary people don’t show up when we need them, such as videographers and photographers – If this happens and we can’t continue without them, we will have to reschedule what we had planned to do for another day and make sure we have someone who is more reliable to work for us. Factors like this are why we have planned to get everything done as soon as we can in the project so we have as much time as possible to work with problems.

Equipment failure. The equipment we are using either for recording or live performances break or stop working. To avoid this happening we will use our own reliable equipment where we can to prevent something from breaking. If something does stop working, as it has done in the past, we will have to make do without it and keep the show going. This is for things such as someone snapping a string or the monitors breaking at a live show. However, if something major happens such as the power going out or a PA system breaking, we will have to postpone the event until we can either get it fixed or find a replacement for whatever has broken.
