For the concert, We wanted to go for a setlist that consisted of songs that are popular so that the audience would be able to sing along and would be more likely to enjoy our performance since we are playing familiar songs. Our original setlist consisted of; respect, rehab, superstition, young hearts, and uptown funk. We chose these songs because we thought of the songs we would want to hear if we were to go to a funk/soul tribute gig. And since our target audience is people of all ages, it is very likely that the majority of the audience will know and enjoy these songs.
However, after some deliberation, we decided not to perform ‘Respect’. This was in part due to time restraints, and our vocalist being uncomfortable with the song. It was a shame to have to drop this from our set as it would have been a fitting tribute to Aretha Franklin’s recent passing. But after thinking about it, we decided that we would rather give the audience a satisfying performance than risk messing up on a song in memory of the artist.
For our stage presence, we have decided to go for a smart black and white look that is reminiscent of The Blues Brothers. We decided to go for this look as it is smart, looks pleasing, and pays homage to a legendary film about a blues and soul band.
