MOCK PERFORMANCE

For the mock performance, we played our entire EP for our set. As it was only our mock performance, we didn’t promote as heavily as we would’ve for our real gig. This was because we wanted to get some feedback on our performance to get it as good as we could for our whole audience. However, we still invited some family and friends so they would be able to give us constructive criticism.

EVALUATION:

Overall, I believe that we had a successful performance as we managed to play through our entire set without any glaring mistakes or having to stop the performance.

However, There was a purpose to have this mock performance, to find out what we could improve on for our final performance. One thing that we could improve on as a band was our stage presence. Within the band, we agreed that in the video we don’t look like a band, we look like a group of individuals who have been forced to play together. The main way that we can fix this is through our attire. We are all looking very mismatched and as if we belong to different bands. This is going to be addressed by having a certain dress code such as wearing dark clothes, trousers (as the bassist is wearing shorts) and jackets, to make ourselves look more uniform. Another aspect is our actual stage presence. We seem very uncoordinated on stage in terms of our body language and stage moves. As I am behind the drums, I am mostly out of the eye of the audience, however, I still try to have some form of stage presence to make it a visually entertaining show. I mainly do this by banging my head in time with the beat to suit the aggressive style of music we play, or generally moving my body in time to show that I am getting into the music. The other members are doing this to a certain extent, mostly the bassist, Cain. Sam, the guitarist, hardly moved during the set. this will need to be addressed before our final performance in order to have a visually entertaining show. Also, if we don’t look like we are enjoying or getting into the music, how can we expect the audience to. Our technical skill and tightness live could also be improved. One general improvement we could make is that we sped all of the songs up a lot when we were on stage. This was accidental and was due to our adrenaline and excitement getting the better of us. I was guilty of speeding up songs due to my adrenaline. To rectify this, I will have to practice the songs along to a metronome both on my own and with the band to make sure that we are used to playing the songs at a set speed so that we don’t speed up.

Overall, I am glad we did this mock so that I could find out what needed improving before we had our final performance. Because of this, I class this as a successful performance.
