On Thursday 7th March, we played a 4 song set at the open mic night. We initially played this gig to get footage for our music video. We wanted some live footage of us performing on a stage to go in our music video to break it up a bit. Because of this, the audience turnout wasn’t as important to us as our look and stage presence. Therefore, we didn’t put as much effort into promotion as we usually would. However, we still put some effort into promotion through social media as there was no point playing to an empty room. The most important people for us to have there were our friends and family that were holding cameras and taking photos for us. We had an experienced videographer filming the main shots for the video, this consisted of him mostly walking around the front of the stage getting footage of us performing.
Although the purpose of the concert was to film a music video, we still wanted to put on an entertaining show for the audience. We had a 20-minute set and performed four songs. The songs we chose were our two singles, bad habit and smackhead, colossal (another original) and breathe by the prodigy. We chose to cover breathe as the frontman of The Prodigy, Keith Flint, had passed away the week before. We thought it would be nice to pay tribute to the influence he had on us by performing one of his band’s most famous tune. This seemed to go down well as the audience seemed to enjoy our rendition of the song as we were using traditional instruments instead of synthesizers and loops. We received some good feedback from the audience and staff of the venue on our performance, they all seemed to enjoy our performance.
We got some decent shots that we can now use for our music video. Because of this, I class this as a successful performance.
