FINAL PERFORMANCE

For our final performance, we held our EP launch. We did this at the underground with a number of other acts from college. This was a very successful night, we had a lot of people in the crowd and they all seemed to be very much enjoying the music.

some things that went well about the performance were that we were the only act that had a theatrical start. We had planned to go on stage like zombies and not look at the audience until the first song kicked in. This gained a big reaction from the crowd as it was something new and different for them that night. We also had a very tight and technically competent performance. we very rarely went out of time with each other and there were no glaring mistakes, at least not big enough for the audience to notice. We were also the only bad to have coordinated lights with our music. Our tutors did this to make our performance more enjoyable and visually entertaining for the audience which is what we wanted. Not only did we have a good visual show, our sound had also greatly improved since our mock. This was mainly down to the fact that we brought all of our own gear to play with. I Brough my own Mapex Armory drum kit which is miles better than the house kit at the underground. This greatly helped the performance as it made me feel more comfortable behind the drums but also gave a better sound for the audience.

However, If we were to do this again, some aspects I would like to change would be; the speed at which we played the songs. Once again, adrenaline got the better of me and I couldn’t help but speed up the songs. A way to ensure that this doesn’t happen more often is to practice the songs at home to a metronome, and to take some deep breaths before I go on stage to calm my nerves to make sure adrenaline doesn’t get the better of me. Also I would improve the timing in the fast section of ‘What’s done’. I built up way too much speed to this bit and fatigue got the better of me because my arms started to tire rapidly during this section. I managed to pull through but next time I need to be careful not to jump the gun so I dint risk ruining the performance or injuring myself.

All these things considered, we got a very good response from the crowd between songs and at the end of the performance. It was a very enjoyable experience and is definitely something that I would like to pursue In my future as a career.
