Day 1

Our first day of shooting the music video for Bad Habit was getting the live scenes done in an old abandoned warehouse in Cleckheaton. This was a perfect location as we wanted a dark, grimy place to record to go with the vibe of Bad Habit. We had decided to go dressed wearing plain black t-shirts, this was so that we would all be matching and we could avoid anyone wearing logos. When recording the video, we were miming on our instruments along to a demo of the song that we were playing through a Bluetooth speaker we had next to my drum kit. This was so that we were all in time and coordinated.  Getting shots of the entire band and then close-ups were the first things that we did. This was before we had any paint of glitter on us.

After this, we proceeded to throw glitter and paint all over ourselves to make ourselves look as colourful and messy as possible. This is what Sonny, as the director, had in mind for us. Once we covered ourselves in paint, we recreated the shots we had already taken but this time covered in glitter. This would show the transition well during the live performance scene, and also make it easier to edit. Below are some photos that were taken when we were covered in paint. With these pictures, you can clearly see how dilapidated our location was.

Once we finished filming the scenes, we then had a quick photoshoot to take advantage of how we all looked.

There weren’t many strengths of this video shoot as it was kind of messy and uncoordinated. One strength was that during all the videos we were in time with each other. Whether miming playing the instruments or jumping around, we were clearly in time with each other.

One weakness of this shoot was that we didn’t look as professional as we could’ve. This was partly due to the fact that there were about 5 of our friends behind the camera. This made it a bit awkward to film and resulted in us feeling a bit uncomfortable and therefore laughing and giggling on camera. To prevent this from happening in the future we will make sure we only bring people who we need and that we will be comfortable around. Another weakness of this video is that the majority of the shots weren’t up to standard, a lot of them were unusable, whether this was down to people laughing, the wrong people in the shot, or some members of the band not playing their instruments at the right time. to prevent this in the future we will need a definite plan of what everybody needs to do and when they need to do it. This will help to avoid any confusion and keep things running smooth. One more weakness was that shortly after this video shoot, we had to relieve our rhythm guitarist Sam of his duties and kick him out of the band. This made all of the shots definetly unusable, therefore we will have to reshoot the video.

Overall, I don’t think that this was a successful day of shooting as almost all the shots were unusable due to how unprofessional it looked. However, we did learn a lot from this process which will help us when it comes to re-recording the video, such as; only bringing the people that we need, having a detailed plan of what we need to do, and making sure we are on top form.
