Tutor feedback:
last year, same time frame, just about managed to record 4 tracks – now going for ten, what’s changed?
group work process needs to change, the scale of the project needs to change
budget concerns
what are we going to gain from this as opposed to last year
fewer tracks, different promotion strategy? tour?
Peer feedback:
Strengths:
One basic strength of my presentation was my presenting skills. I was confident in my speaking and could get my point across in a clear and coherent manner. Another strength was that I had my goals set out clearly so that the audience knew exactly what I would be doing and when I would be doing it. One strength of my actual proposal was that I outlined how I would be reflecting on my project throughout. Another strength of my presentation was that I had outlined some basic research that I had already conducted into my project, I looked at different promotion techniques, funding options, and studios that I could have used. This shows that I had thought about what I would need to undertake this project and what I would need to research further.
Weaknesses:
During my presentation, I never mentioned how we would be releasing the album and what platforms I would be putting the album on. This would need some research to find out what would be the best platforms to release the album on, and what would yield us the most success. Another weakness is whether producing a ten track album is appropriate for where my band is at the moment, our time frame, and our budget. On average it costs about £5000 to record a professional quality ten track album. After looking at funding options, I realised that it would take about six weeks for them to even consider us. because of this, we would most likely not get funding in time for the planned recording of the album so we would have to record it out of our own pocket. None of us has that much money to spare so without funding, we would not be able to afford to record an album that we were aiming for. Also, in the short time frame that we have, we would be really pushed to record a full album. It would almost be impossible for us to achieve this.
Evaluation:
With my presentation, the weaknesses massively outweighed the strengths so something needed to change about my idea. The main thing that needed changing was the concept of a ten-track album. Overall, due to the feedback I received, as a band, we have decided that we are going to do away with the idea of producing a ten track album and instead record two singles that are studio ready. This is a much more achievable project than a full ten track album and would be more beneficial for us. As outlined in the tutor feedback, this would be a much better move on our part as it would be more affordable, people would be more likely to listen to it, and we would have a better chance at promoting our music if we had a well-produced video to go along with it. I have also decided that the shared roles aspect was not a good idea. It would be better for us to each spearhead one certain role and run with it. Because of this, I have decided that I will be in charge of the recording process as my main role. This makes sure that we don’t get confused with what we are supposed to be doing and there is no overlapping of ideas. In conclusion, I am happy with how my presentation went as it gave me a better understanding of my project and how to improve which led me to change my idea for the better.
