In the screenshots below you can see that I have filled out a direct application form to apply to Bradford College. I also applied to Universities through UCAS.

Personal Statment

I am applying for this course as I have always loved working on computers since I was young. Technology has advanced so far, for example. Artificial intelligence is used to provide computer systems with the ability to make decisions like a human. Computing also enables you to make a positive difference in this world and it will keep advancing. I would love to be working in an ever-growing industry.

This subject interests me as I am passionate about computers, I have built computers for family and friends. I found that to be fun and helpful as it helps me to understand a computer on a more technical side. I understand that having great analytical skills, problem solving skills, excellent math skills and many more are crucial. I am willing to expand and grow my skills to the next level.

I am suitable for this course as I have great attention to detail which will allow me to spot errors within work, I have basic coding skills. I am driven and willing to put in the work to obtain and further my knowledge of technical skills. such as programming, data analyzing and data visualization.

I have been studying Creative media at Bradford College for two years. This is my final year on the current course UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology. We learnt basic code to help us make a game with one level. This could help as I will have a basic understanding of code. We also do a lot of research for films that we create. We did the following for these pre-productions, presentations, distributing and promotional material such as posters. For games we did a similar thing but not as thorough unfortunately. I say this because I enjoyed working on games more than films. In my sound design studies we learnt about foley sounds, among other things this was completely new to me, I had a minuscule understanding of sound. I had no idea I would enjoy it later. We also did graphic design using photoshop. Our tutors got us to make promotional material for Deer Shed festival. Overall, I enjoyed this course as it allowed me to experiment in different fields as mentioned (Sound design, film, game design, and graphic design.) To find what I enjoy most. The transferable skills I have received from this course will benefit me.

During my time in college, I was introduced to the software Fl studio. (Digital audio workstation) I very quickly became addicted to learning it and making music in my spare time. I remember during lockdown I would be on this software all night. One time I fell asleep while making a song with my laptop on me. I then woke up with Fl Studio in my face. I then started creating good music and have progressively improved my skills. Now my music is in stores such as iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music and many more. To tie in with my attention to detail during lockdown I picked up a new hobby and skill in detailing cars. I managed to restore my 16-year-old car back to a factory finish using very comprehensive steps including decontaminating by using a clay bar and machine polishing. There are many intricacies involving that which I did not expect. but I found it fun learning a new skill.

For the future I would love to have a secure stable job in the computer science field. Possibly in programming with this course I could achieve this.

Evaluation

While working on this unit it helped me identify what my next steps should be. I now have a great understanding of what an apprenticeship is and how they work. I now also know how universities work. Applying for courses, UCAS, personal statements, entry requirements and many more things such as living away from home. My tutors helped guide me in the direction I need to go to pursue my career goals.

I found apprenticeships are interesting as they allow you to work and earn money as well as study. Before this course, my perception of university is its too expensive I can’t go there but after doing research and having conversations with career advisors/student services  I learnt that when you take out a student loan to pay for the course you only pay it back when you earn around £25.000 a year. You will only need to pay 9% of your income.

After this course I’m currently studying I am going to do an apprenticeship in IT. If that doesn’t work out, I will use my contingency plan and follow through with my UCAS and enroll to the university that accepted my application.
