For this composition, we researched into music that included vocalists with lyrical content. We did this because it closely related to our ensemble compositions we were to be creating.
The first song we looked at was ‘Winter Winds’ by Mumford and Sons. This song consisted of two sections and had an in depth instrumentation that sounded great. It showed us that we should vary all of our instruments in how we use them, and where we should play them pitch and note wise.
I also looked at, for my own use, The Arctic Monkeys and their successful song ‘Do I Wanna Know’. I chose to look at them because they have largely influenced my playing ever since I first began playing. This song is famous for its riffs using bass and lead guitar, therefore i looked in depth at the riff and found that they used space between their riffs, a bit like a breather. This gives the song a more spacious feel and makes the focus more on the melody of the riff and not the rhythm.
