What I Liked about this composition:
- I strongly believe that we all enjoyed this composition which meant that we could honestly put some real emotion into it and give more of an emotional response and emotional texture.
- I also feel like we worked together incredibly well to vary the instrumentation in this composition, we also planned out the composition much more before hand, which gave us something stronger to base the composition off of.
What I disliked about this composition:
- I felt that, during this composition, my creative freedom was quite restricted because, all though we all had input, there was a lot of us working together on one song which meant that, in all real honesty, I only really created my own part and had a few little opinions on how the song should have sounded in certain parts.
- Also, I believe that our bands weren’t as good as they could have been because there was lots of different styles of music being played by each different person within each band, this meant that the style of the song sometimes felt odd and strange due to all of the different influences from different styles of music coming together.
What will I do differently in the future? :
In the future, if I am working on an ensemble composition like this one, I will try and limit the different influences and try to keep the song in one general style of music if I can, because whilst many different influences can be a good thing, it can create odd tones and strange textures within the composition sometimes, when less influences would give the song a cleaner and more easily understandable tone.
What has this composition taught me? :
This composition has taught me that too many people working together on one thing can sometimes create confusion, whilst also restricting the creative freedom of those people, and so sometimes, it is better to write the song with fewer people, this would give the benefit of the extra influences whilst not allowing them to influence the sound too much, whilst also allowing people to still have the creative freedom they want.
